Do you have any idea how special each one of you are? God deeply loves each and every one of you! He loves you so much, He has prepared a place for you – in Heaven! And He has told us in so many ways, and we are going to take a look at one of those letters now.

In the book of Psalms, number 139   God reveals His deep love for us, even before we celebrated our very first birth – day. God tells us:

13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body
and knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.
15 You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion,
as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.
16 You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out
before a single day had passed.

17 How precious are your thoughts about me, O God.
They cannot be numbered!
18 I can’t even count them;
they outnumber the grains of sand!

I first grabbed a hold of this passage when I was about 30 yrs old. I was on a meditation retreat, We were encouraged to sit quietly with God and speak the words of this psalm, believe them and ask God to make them personal. I was amazed at the revelation of the depth of love God has for me. You know what God tells us in scripture is true – it’s eternally true.

Sometimes the greatest gifts our Father in Heaven has for us, are the        truths that knock our socks off. I found that if I am willing to give him a little uninterrupted time, He will speak to my heart through the scriptures in ways I could never imagine.

I will admit I was a bit uncomfortable with the meditation idea,  especially with all the new age religion ideas floating around. But as I asked my Father to teach me, I was surprised that He brought up a very unpleasant event from my childhood.

In this memory, I was as a three year old. It was Christmas day, and my favorite gift was my first bottle of nail polish. I just couldn’t wait for Mom to help me open it, as Dad had told me to.  Being an impatient little girl, I had to get the bottle opened, and promptly spilled a good amount on the coffee table just as Dad walked in the room. I don’t remember his words, just being dragged into my bedroom, and the intense pain as welts formed up and down my back from his belt. He closed the door and left me weeping in the dark. Five minutes later, the beating scene repeated itself as he found the polish had also dripped on the rug.  There began my battle with nighttime terror. Again, I was three.

So why would God bring this painful memory to me while meditating?

Because He wanted to heal my heart. As I relived the memory, God showed me how He was there with me, protecting my heart, loving so deeply. I felt such overwhelming love from Him, that it took away the pain. It was as if he had freed me from the damage. I could feel forgiveness for my Dad flooding my heart and was immediately freed from a painful grasp of the enemy that had held me captive for so many years. I have heard this kind of blessing explained, relating it to being in a prison. I was this little girl, stuck in the prison of this hurtful memory. By letting God love me through this memory, I opened my hands to receive the gift of victory over it. I stopped clenching the key in my hand, and use it to open that jail’s door.

You may have something you are holding onto – afraid to let God take control. It could be as common to many of us, by holding on to a poor self esteem.  Sometimes we simply need assurance of how much God truly loves us – and there we find our true worth.

God is with you, waiting and wanting to fill you with His peace and love. Let’s take a moment and let Him fill you with His love. Close your eyes and meditate on these words your Father wants to bless you with.

18 I can’t even count them;
they outnumber the grains of sand!

Pray in the blessing.

Take this opportunity to experience the depth of God’s love today.

First, pray and ask God to reveal His truths to you.

Then read verse by verse all of Psalm 139. Finish this sentence for each verse:

What does it mean to me personally, how can this impact my life?

You’ll need to read it, then pray the verse into your life, then listen to what God has for you.

Not all of the verses may apply to your life in this moment, but they may apply to your past, or to your future.

When you have finished, ask God to make this psalm real to you.

Remember, you have to be willing to receive the gift of His great love in your lives.
