Valentine’s Day is coming soon. For some, it’s looking forward to a special dinner, or flowers, or even some yummy chocolates. But for many, it’s one of the most difficult days of the year. It’s the day when your heart aches because your spouse has passed away. Or you are faced head on with how far from ideal your marriage is, or was before a divorce. For some, it’s never even having a love of your life. How can so many celebrate such a cruel day?
I went through many years of crying on Valentine’s Day, until one day God showed me a wonderful truth. There is someone who loves me, who loves you, more than I could possibly ever understand. He knows all my faults, my failures, the good and the bad, and His love never changes. That perfect love is from the one who loved me so much, He died on a cross to bear my sin, so that I could be with him for eternity. That’s a long lasting love!
It’s not the same as having prince (or princess) Charming you say? You’re right.
You see, when God loves you, he always loves you. He never forgets your birthday – He was right there in the womb creating you, cell by cell {see Psalm 139}. He knows every hair on your head, even if they are long since gone. He knows when you are sad and lonely. He knows everything about you.
The point is, no human can ever fulfill the deep need we have to be loved, wholly and completely. God alone can fill that space. You simply have to receive that free gift.
This Valentine’s Day, go ahead and celebrate. For you are loved immensely, more than you can possibly understand. Buy yourself some flowers or chocolate , and maybe buy some for a friend who needs to know how much they are loved as well. And Happy Valentine’s Day!
